This practice is located in close proximity to Arnold, Sherwood, Gedling and Mapperley. Located on the eastern side of Nottingham this state of the art facility is the biggest clinic within the PhysioDirect portfolio. There are six treatment rooms and a comfortable reception area while you wait to be seen by the physiotherapist. There is plenty of off street parking to the front of the building where parking bays are clearly marked out.

Our team of Chartered and State Registered Physiotherapists are looking forward to providing you with a fast, efficient and helpful service. PhysioDirect treat all sports injuries, back pain and neck pain, as well as providing pre and post-op rehabilitation. Our team of Physios and Sports Massage Therapists are recognised by all major insurers and private health insurance companies.

The clinic is located on the corner of Gedling Road just before it turns into Arno Vale Road. PhysioDirect is the left hand shop in a row of three. Access is either via Mapperley Top and by turning onto Gedling Road, or via Mansfield Road (A60) and onto Thackerey’s Lane (The Vale pub will be visible as you turn right) and continue onto Arno Vale Road. Once you see the Arrow pub on your right hand side you are nearly there.

Owen was born in Pretoria South Africa in 1971. Having obtained a scholarship to study at The City University in London, he completed his 4 years BSc (Hons) degree in physiotherapy in 1994. Following graduation he worked as a physiotherapist at the University College London hospital for 2 years. During this time he completed a diploma in manipulative therapy making him a member of the Manipulative Association of Chartered physiotherapists.

In 1996 Owen moved to New Zealand for 2 years, and continued to work in a private practice while also as a team physiotherapist with one of the national provincial Rugby Union teams. He moved to the Nottingham in 1998 to start PhysioDirect Sherwood Limited.

During the course of the last 10 years he has also worked for UK Athletics as a team principal physiotherapist and was responsible for the middle distance athlete’s care and wellbeing. This often required travelled with them globally to training camps and athletics meeting. For the last most recent 8 seasons Owen has also been involved with The Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey team as their team physiotherapist.

Josh Makinson, MSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, GSR

Our Sports Rehabilitation Physiotherapists in Nottingham include Josh Makinson

After graduating from Salford University with a BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Rehabilitation in 2010, Josh worked in a variety of clinics within the private sector. He successfully treated a variety of clientele ranging from the sedentary to elite sportsmen and women specialising in musculoskeletal and sporting injuries.

Looking to progress in his chosen field Josh gained an MSc in Physiotherapy from The University of Cumbria where he acquired clinical experience in orthopaedic and neurological care. His clinical training as a physiotherapist, coupled with his previous experience in rehabilitation, has resulted in treatment approaches designed to restore normal function to the individual whilst underpinning the cause and overall prevention of injury.

Starting with Physiodirect in October 2013, Josh’s special interests include joint and soft tissue mobilisation, manipulation, back and neck pain and sports injuries. He looking to extend his area of treatment by completing a qualification in acupuncture and expand his manual therapy skills.

Francis Maree, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, HPC, MCSP

Francis graduated from the University of the Free State in South Africa in 2006 with a BSc. After graduation, she worked in Smithfield, South Africa, for a year. During this year, she was the Physiotherapist for the provincial Free State Amateur Rugby Team. Following this experience she started working at a Private Practice in Bloemfontein, SA. During her time at this clinic she treated a variety of acute and chronic sports, orthopedic, and spinal conditions. In 2009 she moved to London and worked there for 4 months, before moving to Nottingham. Currently, Francis works part-time for PhysioDirect and part-time for the NHS.

Rebecca Parken, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MSc, HPC, MCSP, AACP

Rebecca qualified as a physiotherapist from Brunel University in 2003. Post graduation she worked in the NHS and gained wide experience in all areas of physiotherapy, including treating musculoskeletal outpatients and working in orthopedics. In 2007 she studied full time for a year at Nottingham University and gained an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine. Rebecca then continued to work in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy for the NHS and evening work in a private hospital in Surrey. She moved back to Nottingham and started work for PhysioDirect in August 2010.

Rebecca has vast experience in the treatment of neck / low back pain and all joint problems, as well as sports injuries. She has a keen interest in manual treatment, acupuncture and exercise prescription.

Danielle Brailsford BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, HPC, MCSP, AACP

Danielle graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2008. She went on to work with the British Army for five years, working within rehabilitation units, training regiments and primary care settings across the UK as well as working part time in the private sector. Danielle moved back to Nottingham in 2012 and returned to working at Physio Direct alongside taking the role of Musculoskeletal Operations Lead for Bupa in the Midlands.

As part of her experience with the Army she worked closely with Army rugby and boxing teams at regimental level, working on injury rehabilitation and prevention. She gained valuable experience in spinal rehabilitation, sports injury management and also developed high level skills in manual therapy. She is heavily involved in occupational physiotherapy and return to work plans.

Danielle is trained by the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute and completed her AACP approved Acupuncture course in 2009. Her particular interests are spinal injuries, sports rehabilitation and biomechanics.
